More and more people are choosing to purchase goods that are sustainable for the environment and the people making them. Here are 5 forms of sustainable fashion that I've researched over the last year. I've also included a few videos giving more information about each of these 5 forms of sustainable fashion on our YouTube Channel. Check it out!
1. Ethically Made: Ethically made can vary from company to company but most often means the products were made in the USA, no sweatshops were involved in the making, employees were paid a fair wage and the products are eco-conscious.
2. Fair Trade: Fair trade is helping end poverty around the world by giving artisans a platform to sell their goods that guarantees them a fair wage, safe working conditions and that their cultural identity is protected.
3. Give back to charity: There are more and more companies that are starting to give back a portion of their proceeds to charities. These companies are helping uplift communities or causes by providing needed funding.
4. Green/Upcycled: Creating beautiful pieces from old or discarded materials. Products that are eco-friendly or green are made with respect for the environment, often reducing their carbon footprint.
5. On Demand/Custom: These products are often created or customized after a customer purchases them so as not to have a ton of inventory left over at the end of a season, reducing waste.
What are your favorite sustainable brands? We are working on a list of sustainable brands and would love to include your suggestions! Post them below!
