Today I'm sharing a few of the things I've been doing this past year to help me cultivate a calmer, more clear body, mind, and spirit. After reading How to Live a Good Life by Jonathon Fields last year; I've been on a path of self discovery and trying to get into balance more with my 3 buckets: Vitality, Connection, and Contribution. This is the main idea in How to Live a Good Life and it has completely changed my day to day routine. I realized I was living out of alignment with my values.
Connection: My greatest value is my family (connection - according to Jonathon Fields) and I wasn't making enough time for connection in my life. This summer I made a commitment to myself and my family to spend more quality family time together and it was the best summer of our lives. We made memories playing board games in our camper while rain was pouring outside that I'll never forget. We spent entire days riding bikes, hiking, swimming in Lake Michigan....and none of this would've happened if I was still over-scheduled and overwhelmed.

Vitality: Every morning before coffee, I meditate. I do this first thing in order to get my mind into a good place before all the hustle and bustle of the day starts pulling me along. If I don't get myself into a good place first, if I check Facebook or emails, respond to my kids' needs; then I continue throughout my day in reactive mode. But since I've been meditating the last year, I am able to be more mindful all day. It slows me down and I'm able to be more present for my family because the first thing I do is fill my vitality bucket. In turn, I am able to fill other's cups. Because they say you can't fill a cup from an empty cup.

Contribution: This one I feel I've gotten very much aligned with lately. I feel that my work with Ubuntu Goods is contributing to the world in a positive way so everything I do, whether its a blog post, creating a piece of jewelry, or doing taxes, I am filling my contribution bucket because this work is fulfilling to my soul.
