If you're reading this, you're probably the kind of person that wants your purchases to 1) make someone's day and 2) make an impact. Here at Ubuntu Goods we're working hard to make sure your purchase impacts as many people as possible.
5 Things Your Purchase Does:
1. Provides employment for women who may not otherwise be able to support their families. The co-operatives and non-profits that we've partnered with in India, Uganda, Nepal, and Peru provide employment and fair wages to artisans in poverty stricken countries where many people cannot earn a fair, livable wage.
2. Provides hope, safety and employment to women who have been rescued from human trafficking, exploitation, addiction or prostitution.
For example, our partner in Nashville, TN employs 50 survivors of addiction, prostitution and trafficking and reaches hundreds of women yearly through residential program services, case management, referrals, legal services, the courts and general outreach.
3. Provides meals to Americans facing hunger. We've partnered with Feeding America and for every dollar donated they are able to provide 11 meals to the hungry in America through local food pantries.
4. Provides education and opportunities for women. Each fair trade partner provides a different educational or vocational program according to the needs in their country. For example, our partner in Uganda provides schooling, agricultural, and de-worming programs to the artisans, their families, and their community.
5. Fights gender inequality around the world. One of our partners in India, MatrBoomie, is minimizing gender disparity in India by providing employment to over 500 women (more than half their workforce), forming a women's cooperative, and paying 2-3 times higher wages than conventional markets.
What better way to spread love and compassion this Valentine's Day than making sure your purchase does good?
